Natural cures and healthy alternatives used to be the basics of health and healing years ago.

2400 years ago Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine said, "Let thy food be thy medicine and let thy medicine be thy food."

There are thousands of studies and natural health articles being published every year advising us about how good nutrition improves our health.

The evidence is overwhelming suggesting that Hippocrates was right!

We are so used to running to the doctor or popping a pill for every ailment.

We don't even stop to think that there may be natural health remedies or natural health supplements available to us.

Good Health With Natural Foods

We truly believe that God made our bodies with the ability to heal themselves. That doesn't mean that we don't need physicians, they are definitely needed in many circumstances.

However, we may not need to see them as often, like for colds and other non-urgent ailments.  Understanding the link between good nutrition and disease is critical.

Antibiotics are becoming less and less effective.  We need to be aware that there are other tools available to us and it starts with good nutrition.

Commercial farming practices, soil depletion, pestides all contribute to the problem with have with our foods lacking the essential nutrients we need to thrive and prevent diseases.

As stated in natural health articles, our good health is being robbed by:

  • fast foods
  • packaged foods
  • stressful lifestyles
  • environmental conditions

The evidence is clear. Diseases and chronic illnesses are at an all time high despite the advances in medicine.

It's alarming how many young adults are suffering with diabetes, heart disease and cancer.

What Can You Do?

Start by getting back to basics with time tested natural cures and natural health remedies. For example, think about how things have changed since you've grown up.

Are there ways you can simplify your life and get back to the basics of shopping, cooking, cleaning and recreating. Our modern ways and busy lives are not necessarily better.

Grandma used to purchase meats much differently than today. She bought whole chickens, meat on the bone, instead of individual filets and pieces. Our ancestors used every part of the animal, including the carcass, skin and bones.

If you're looking for natural cures and natural health remedies, it may be as close as your kitchen stove. One of the most natural cures and inexpensive ways to improve your health is to start making your own soup. It's easier than you think.

One of the most natural cures and inexpensive ways to improve your health is to start making your own soup. It's easier than you think.

Grandma's Natural Cure Started With Soup

Don't know how to make soup? No excuses now, this should get you started.

Chicken Soup Recipe

Buy a whole chicken and either put it in a pot for soup or you can bake the chicken, serve it for dinner and then save the carcass and bones to boil for your soup.

Either way, cover chicken with about 4 quarts of water and your favorite seasonings, onions, garlic, celery, carrots, etc.

Add 2-3 Tablespoons of 1/4 cup of vinegar to help draw the minerals out of the bone and into the broth.

Bring it to a boil, and skim off any foam that forms.  Then turn it down and let it simmer for a several hours.

Strain the broth pulling out any meat or vegetables you want to add back into the soup.

At this point you can get creative and add more meat, vegetables, noodles, barley, rice or dumplings to the final broth.

I like to boil the bones and skin and sometimes chicken feet for about 24 hours.  So I don't add the meat back in just yet.  I return the stock back to simmer, usually overnight.  You can use a crock pot if you're concerned about leaving your stove on all night.

You can do the same thing with beef bones (neck bones are good to use) or fish bones (including the head of the fish).

Foods As Natural Cures

Natural health articles have long recommended chicken soup when you get a cold. But did you know there is some scientific evidence to that theory?

It's not just folklore. Your homemade soup is providing a nutritious source of minerals especially, calcium, magnesium and potassium to help replace what is missing from our foods.

To learn more about eating for good health and how to prepare nutritious and delicious meals, I recommend a book by Sally Fallon called Nourishing Traditions: The Cookbook that Challenges Politically Correct Nutrition and the Diet Dictocrats

It is an excellent book.  It's not just a recipe book, it's my food bible.  This book explains the science behind why good food is so important to good health.

I highly recommend you grab a copy for yourself.  You'll be amazed at what you will learn about food, how to prepare it and how much healthier your family will become.

Dr. Francis Pottenger, a doctor and researcher, wrote extensively on nutrition and the benefits of gelatin from meat broths. He felt it could help treat intestinal disorders like hyperacidity, colitis and Crohn's Disease.

While the gelatin is not a complete protein, it helps the body to use the protein from other foods more effectively. If you want to learn more, he has a very interesting book called Pottenger's Cats.

Other Natural Cures and Alternatives

With all the published evidence from the thousands of studies being done every year, there is no doubt that good nutrition is a healthy alternative and the safest natural cure to prevent disease.

But we now know that our food sources can't provide us with all the disease preventing nutrients we need. That's where supplements come in, they are the rescue boat!

They can fill in for our poor depleted produce and provide our body with the necessary nutrients that it needs to thrive and prevent diseases.

If you're concerned about taking so many medications and wish to explore more natural remedies consider the many natural herbal supplements that are available.

However, don't stop taking your medication without consulting your healthcare professional.

There are even healthy alternatives to anti-viral and antibiotic medications, like Silver Shield.

It is a natural, safe, non-toxic, effective solution to use in place of over the counter medicines as well as anti-biotics. Even when taken with antibiotics, it helps increase the effectiveness of them.

If you're looking for safe, non toxic natural health remedies use Silver Shield as your first line of defense against viruses, bacteria, fungus and parasites.
