Healthy Breasts and Preventing Breast Cancer
I attended an educational class recently and the topic was on natural ways to have healthy breasts and preventing breast cancer. A timely topic since October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. The lecture was given by Dr. Mary Borne, a Naturopathic Doctor and natural health expert, Steven Horne, AHG.
I thought I'd list the highlights in this newletter but if you want more clarification or details, you can find them on my website along with a link to see the entire video of the class.
If you're a man, please invite the important women in your life to read this.
Five Keys to Preventing Breast Cancer
Did you know that 30%-50% of breast cancer could be prevented with a healthy diet and getting regular exercise?
Key Number 1 - Focus on Good Nutrition
Choose Good Foods
Avoid simple carbohydrates and processed oils
Choose fresh natural foods, not canned and processed
Choose organic, it's more nutritious
Choose Good Fats
Omega 3 essential fatty acids
Butter and cream from organic, grass fed cows
Choose Good Protein Sources
Choose organic meat from grass fed animals
Don't overcook proteins
Key Number 2 Avoid Xenoestrogen Substances
Xenoestrogen substances are a major cause of breast cancer and other female health problems.
Commercial meat and dairy products
Pesticide residues on commercial produce
Microwave cooking in plastic
Laundry detergents and household cleaning products
Counteracting Xenoestrogen Substances
Consume more foods like broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, kale and turnips.
Or take Indole 3 Carbinol, which is a good supplement for getting rid of xenoestrogens
Detox your liver with foods like garlic, onions, cabbage and cauliflower. Or detox with supplements like Indole-3 Carbinol, All Cell Detox or Enviro-Detox
Key Number 3 Use Natural Remedies and Supplements
There are lots of good foods that promote good breast health and prevent breast cancer. The trick is to actually eat them. If you can't get the nutrients from your foods, then supplementing might be a good option for you, especially if you have a family history of breast cancer.
Ellagic Acid is known for stopping carcinogens from intiating cancer cell growth. Best food sources are found in cherries, grapes, walnuts, raspberries, strawberries and pomegranates.
Bioflavonoids detoxify harmful estrogens and help prevent the production of cancer cells. Best food sources are found in citrus, grapes, onions and buckwheat.
Lignans prevent the growth of tumors. Best food sources are found in nuts and seeds especially flax seed.
Beta carotene naturally protects against cancer. Best food sources are from beans, carrots, cantaloupe, pumpkin, winter squash, yams, broccoli, brussel sprouts, spinach and sweet potatoes.
Lutein and Zeaxanthin provide cancer fighting benefits for pre-menopausal women with family history of breast cancer.
Best food sources are found in collard greens, spinach, kale, corn and most yellow vegetables.
Lycopene helps eliminate free radicals from cigarette smoke. Best sources: tomatoes, carrots, guava, ruby red grapefruit and watermelon.
Catechins have a powerful antioxidant effect and are found in black and green tea.
Chlorophyll This green pigment prevents damage to the DNA in cells which occurs when normal cells transform into cancerous cells.
by Natures Sunshine Products is a loaded with good nutrients to promote healthy breasts. Many of the nutrients listed above are in this supplement.
Key Number 4 Be Positive and Reduce Stress
We know the damage that stress causes to our body so controlling stress is always a good thing. But having a positive attitude can be very helpful in controlling our health too. Learn to pamper yourself to reduce stress.
Take a walk in nature, the colors are spectacular
Get a massage
Listen to good music
Take a bubble bath or soak in hot tub
Regular breast massage helps to improve circulation and lymph drainage.
Here is a video teaching breast massage
to encourage lymphatic flow. Getting trapped lymph fluid to move is healthy and can alleviate breast pain and tenderness. You can eventually eliminate lumps if done regularly.
Key Number 5 Switch from Mammography to Thermography
Avoid mammograms and consider
instead. Thermograms can detect abnormalities 10 years sooner than mammograms and there is no harm done to your sensitive breast tissue.
Mammogram x-rays increase your risk of cancer. A typical mammogram of both breasts will expose you to 2,720 RADs (Radiation Absorbed Dose). And they encourage us to get a mammogram every year. The non-direct natural radiation that we as humans absorb every year is only 300 RADs. To learn more about thermography, click here.

My Closing Thoughts
There is so much money raised every year to support finding a cure for breast cancer, and I know that's important.
But I wish there was more of a focus on educating the public on how to prevent breast cancer and other diseases.
It all boils down to good nutrition, avoiding toxins and making healthy choices. By adopting these lifestyle changes we can not only prevent breast cancer, but we could prevent all kinds of other illnesses and diseases as well.
We are having a beautiful fall this year, I hope you can take some time to get outdoors and enjoy the beautiful colors of the season. God bless you all.
To Your Good Health!
