Happy Spring! Sorry for my delay in sending this HC4L News and Views but I have been busy learning more about natural health and got a little overwhelmed with classes and homework.

There are so many things I wish I had time to share with you but if I did, this newsletter would be so long that nobody would read it!

So instead I will highlight some of the information in an introductory paragraph and if you are interested, click on the link to read more about that particular topic.

    Genetically Modified Foods

Did you know that companies aren't required to to label a product that is genetically engineered or made with genetically modified organisms?

However, when it comes to fresh produce we have some control over our choices. Those little stickers on your produce can tell you how it's grown and the country of origin. A four digit number means it's conventionally grown. If the four digit number is preceded by the number 9, it's organically grown, but if it's preceded by the number 8, it's genetically modified.

Some companies that care about the quality of their products, do let you know by putting "Non GMO" on their labels. Unfortunately, they are now being challenged and may not be allowed to continue that practice in the near future.

The USDA is trying to make it illegal for a company to use "Non GMO" labeling on their products. Europeans don't allow GMO foods, why should we? If you have one minute and wish to learn more about how you can voice your concern about this, Click Here

    Problems with GMO Foods

GMO foods were started in 1996 and we are the “experimental” guinea pigs for these foods. A few of the foods that are currently being modified are

  • corn
  • soy
  • cottonseed (used in cooking oil)
  • canola
  • sugar from sugar beets (look for cane sugar)
  • Hawaiian papaya
  • some varieties of zucchini
  • crookneck squash
  • There are 800 more food applications before the USDA now awaiting approval!

The initial studies on the health effects of GMO products are not good. Now there is evidence that GMO products could lead to infant mortality and sterility. To learn more about this and other dangers of GMO foods, Click Here

    Grow Your Own Container Garden

While I believe we need to stop the production of GMO foods and not allow them in our country, until we win that fight, why not start your own container garden? It doesn't require a lot of space or a green thumb. Believe me if I can do it, you can too. This is my container garden from last year.

It was perfect until we had a major rainfall and then I realized we forgot to put holes in the bottom for drainage! But despite that little error, we did enjoy lots of delicious and nutritious vegetables from our little garden. Just make sure you buy organic or heirloom seeds/starter plants (if you don't have a reputable source close by, check online).

    Do You Take Supplements?

If so, your rights to do so are about to be changed and not for the better. Legislation is once again attempting to trample on our freedom of speech and our rights as they relate to supplementation. To learn more about what is happening to your rights and freedoms, Click Here

Urgent Action is needed now as the Senate is about to undertake this matter. Take a minute now to learn more and voice your concern by Clicking Here

Making healthy choices to improve your life can bring about a wonderful sense of peace about how you feel about yourself and your life.

It's unfortunate that others want to take away our choices but we must act to preserve our freedoms especially when it comes to our food choices.

If they take away our ability to control our food and supplement choices, they are in essence taking away our ability to control our own health.

Peace is not the absence of conflict but the presence of creative alternatives for responding to conflict ... Dorothy Thompson

    Make it a great day!
