Glucosamine Replacement
Side Effects

by Judith

For a long time I had been taking Melrose's Glucosamine for Vegans for arthritis. But I was not keen on the taste and found it gave me lots of gas. So the assistant at the Health store suggested I try OptiMSM, a Nutralife product.

MSM stands for Methyl Sulfonyl Methane. On the container it states that Sulphur is essential for healthy joints and connective tissues including muscles, hair and skin, so I thought it may be worth trying.

I was advised that it had a pleasant orange taste. It is sweet to taste and leaves a very sweet aftertaste in the mouth as it is sweetened with Sucralose. ( Too sweet for my taste.)

After reading your very informative web-site, I realize that it is probably this product which is giving me mild diarrhea. I cannot understand why I did not read the label myself as I always do.

I avoid all artificial colours, flavours and presevatives, so I am annoyed with myself for not checking this earlier.

My sweetener of choice is Xylitol. I will cease using this product immediately as I have had FM/CFS (fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome)for many years. Being vegan I love all that is natural and unprocessed.

I hope my story will help others.

Xylitol can have a laxative effect so that may be causing your problem. Erythritol is also a natural sugar but does not have the laxative effect.
